What We Value Most
Just like our individual values show up in how we interact with others, who we choose as friends, as well as where we spend our time and money, the values of an organization show up in those same ways.
At Operation Shoestring we spend a lot of time discussing our value position as an organization and strive to live out the values we all share. To that end, we’ve developed a set of organizational norms by which we work.
Be kind – Kindness is the most powerful thing one human has to offer another.
Be teachable – “Creating and building an ecosystem of high-quality learners” is the guide post Operation Shoestring uses to shape the work we do. We must approach our work with open hearts and minds eager to learn.
Be prepared to teach, explain, clarify – Just as we need to be ready to learn more from each other, we should also be prepared to teach what we know.
Be brave – It’s difficult to be vulnerable with your peers. However, being brave enough to have honest conversations allows for clarity and a deeper understanding of self and others while helping equip us to be courageous in our work.
Be a team player – Without the cooperation of everyone on the Operation Shoestring team, we can’t possibly expect to continue to serve our kids, families, and community in ways they deserve.
Keeping the kids and families we serve at the center of our work makes staying true to our organizational values imperative. We should seek to embody the qualities we want to teach and inspire in others. Let us know your thoughts about these organizational norms.
Do you see them visible in your work, faith, community life?
