Experts agree: quality afterschool and summer programs help students succeed at school. This week, afterschool and summer program stakeholders from across our state gathered for the first time to kick off the MS Statewide Afterschool Partnership, which will help promote this message and efforts to strengthen these programs for every child in Mississippi. Education advocate Terry K. Peterson, Education Advisor at the C.S. Mott Foundation, National Board Chair for theĀ Afterschool Alliance, and Chief Education Advisor to the U.S. Secretary of Education 1993-2001, spoke to the gathering and lifted up the importance of these efforts. Thanks to Operation Shoestring‘s very own Afterschool Ambassador and Programs Director Amber May, along with our friends at the United Way of The Capital Area, Alignment Jackson, and the City of Jackson Mayor’s Youth Initiative for helping make this event happen.
