Shoestring’s Parent Summer Camp

At Operation Shoestring, summer camp isn’t just for kids! This June and July, over fifty Shoestring family members are set to participate in our second annual parent summer camp. Participants in this program consistently say that our parent summer camp was one of the most memorable and meaningful experiences they’ve had in our program. This year’s parent camp is focused in particular on promoting physical, mental, and emotional health and providing Shoestring families with tools and tips for stress management.

This summer, parent “campers” will gather for an all-day session in June at Cultivation Food Hall and another all-day session in July at the Ecoshed. Together, they’ll laugh, connect, and work with Marion Counseling and iLeadMS to cover topics like mental health and self-advocacy. With the help of our community partners, our programs team has put together a day where parents have a variety of spaces and settings to process, create, dream and envision their path to a more self-determined, joyful, and healthy life.

At Operation Shoestring, we believe that a key component of serving the children in our neighborhood is working with their families and connecting them with resources and experiences that can help empower them to thrive. And when one family in our neighborhoods can thrive, we all can thrive. We all rise together.
