Rising To A Brighter Future

50 years ago this month a group of individuals determined to make changes in their communities met to discuss forming a community organization.

Nancy Gilbert, Operation Shoestring’s first executive director.

According to the Dr. T.W. Lewis, a founding board member, this group would represent different ethnic and religious groups throughout the city of Jackson. Of these first talks, Operation Shoestring was born.

Now, 50 years later, we’re celebrating our community and the kids and families we’ve had the privilege of working with over the years. It was amazing to see Shoestring parents, donors, community partners and former staff come together to show their support for our organization.

Our anniversary kickoff celebration on March 20th was made even more exciting with the announcement of our Rise to the Future 50th Anniversary Capital Campaign to fund the plans to renovate our building.

This campaign will ensure:

Being afforded the opportunity to work, create, and collaborate in a space like Operation Shoestring is truly a blessing. Together with our supporters, Operation Shoestring will rise even higher in the next 50 years.

A special thanks to the Junior League of Jackson for providing great activities for our kids and all the refreshments for the event.
