Making Lifelong Learners
Most of us can name a teacher who truly made an impact on our lives. The memory of that teacher’s lessons both in school and in life stick with us well into adulthood.
For several of the children in Operation Shoestring’s Project Rise afterschool program, Briana McField is that teacher. Every time you enter her classroom you can feel the excitement from the children as she executes lessons full of this electric energy. Any child walking in her classroom will walk out with lessons they can hold on to for the rest of their lives.
And for Ms. McField great learning experiences occur daily.
“I have small victories every day in the program. For instance, a student I had been working with changing a behavior problem ran up and hugged me and said how much she loved me. Those moments mean the world to me, “says McField.
A graduate of Milsaps College McField came to work at Operation Shoestring’s afterschool and summer programs because she felt the programs were not your typical program. She could see these programs were designed to truly make an impact in the lives of the kids served and she wanted to be a part of it.
Of course, she’s not only teaching but learning too. She says she learns something new often throughout the year she has worked at Operation Shoestring. “Shoestring is a teacher for just as much as I am for them. I learn something new all the time working with the kids and the staff in the program, “she says.
The wonderful experiences the kids receive in Ms. McField’s class are a direct result of the generosity of our supporters. Your support of and investment in our work make it possible for our kids to have experiences like traveling on fields trips, exploring new technology, and learning from great teachers like Briana McField. Thank you for your life-changing support. As we move into a new year I urge you to continue helping make a difference in the lives of others in order to transform our community.
