Jumping Into Summer
From zip lining at Camp Bratton Green to learning to create light painting photography, this year’s summer camp has been stocked full of awesome activities. Experiences are vital to the growth and development of the children we serve.
They’ll dive deeper into their interests, learn new and exciting concepts and avoid the devasting impact of summer learning loss. Your support provides our kids opportunities they may not otherwise. Opportunites that can start them on a path of personal growth and academic success.
Take a look at just a few examples of all the great summer adventures our kids have experienced in the past few weeks.
In addition to basketball, volleyball, and skating, a group of our campers went to Camp Bratton-Green, just north of Canton, where they enjoyed a host of new horizon-expanding experiences like zip lining, feeding animals on the farm and creating tie-dye shirts.
With the return of MFUGE, a national organization with camp experiences designed for young people looking to volunteer to work with kids in areas of need, our kids were smiling all over themselves while making jewelry, playing kickball and learning from MFUGE volunteers about the importance of community service.
Incorporating activities that encourage kids to explore career paths is crucial to their development. For example, learning to light paint in photography camp or fire safety from the experts at the Jackson Fire Department, proved to be a valuable experience for our young people that may blossom into a career choice one day.
Our kids also learned the life-saving skill of swimming during swim camp hosted by St. Andrew’s Episcopal School.
Summer camp experiences are moments people treasure well into their adult lives. With the limited number of summer camp programs out there, finding an affordable camp that will engage children in several enriching activities is a parents’ dream. And without the excellent support from our supporters, Operation Shoestring couldn’t create such a robust summer experience for our kids. Thank you for putting your values to action and investing in the success of the children and families in central Jackson–and our whole community.
