Healthy Kids Are Happy Kids

The orange dice rolled in the center of the circle of kids. One die told the exercise the kids would perform and the other the number of times they would do it. “10 jumping jacks!” the kids exclaimed in unison. Kelsey Holleman, Community Outreach Specialist at UnitedHealthcare, began to count and jump with the kids.

As a part of the company’s community health plan, Kelsey and her team decided to work with our Project Rise kids showing them the importance of living a healthy lifestyle. While the first group of kids rolled the exercise dice, another group competed in a relay race.

With kids becoming less and less physically active, it’s important we partner with companies, like UnitedHealthcare, that see the importance of working with community organizations to create opportunities for kids to learn about healthy living.

A study by Active Living  Research, found that leading public health officials recognize after-school programs as an important setting for promoting physical activity and preventing obesity.

Project Rise afterschool program takes a holistic approach to educating our children. Community partners, like UnitedHeathcare are working to create spaces where children are exposed to opportunities for growth and learning they would not otherwise.

The intersection of our community partners and afterschool and summer programs opens more successful possibilities for our children and families.
