Due to statistical data around poor nutrition, obesity, diabetes, and high blood pressure in African Americans within the state of Mississippi the stats have increased for heart disease, strokes, and cancer which can eventually lead to other severe health issues.
Good nutrition is the first step to leading a healthy lifestyle. Parent’s with a healthy diet can help them to reach and maintain a healthy weight, reduce their risk of chronic diseases, and promote their overall health.
Through nutrition and cooking courses, participating parents will receive a “toolkit” valued at $150 with kitchen essentials, hands-on cooking demonstrations, and homework activities to build their culinary skills.
