Dynamic Teaching, Dancing, and Fun at Project Rise
At Operation Shoestring, educators think teaching our students literacy is a moving experience—literally! When you step into a Project Rise classroom, you’ll see kids using their bodies and minds as they learn.
Longtime Shoestring teachers Mrs. Rounds and her daughter Ms. “Christina” Rounds can often be found line-dancing and boogieing along with their students as they learn their ABC’s. Mrs. Rounds loves to create themed dances about alphabetic order for her kindergarten and pre-K students, and Ms. Rounds enjoys playing a version of musical chairs where the “chair” is a notecard that her students have to read out loud before the game can continue. This commitment to engaging children and nurturing their love of learning is just one of the reasons why kids like second grader Skye say that our teachers are “amazing.”
In a recent art project, Skye drew all the things she loved. She listed her friends, her family, her hobby of painting nails, and her summer camp teacher Ms. Rounds.
