Showing Our Values

In a previous email, I told you at Operation Shoestring we spend a lot of time discussing our value position as an organization and strive to live out the values we all share. We also look closely at ways we can show our values as we interact with our kids, families, and community. Below are a few ways we demonstrate what we value.

Being joyful – Finding joy in everything we do drives us to strive for excellence in all our endeavors.

Being open-minded– Trying new things or accepting new ideas can be scary. An open mind can lead you to new and exciting experiences. At Operation Shoestring, our work is about relating to people primarily young people. Keeping an open mind helps us discover the best ways to reach them.

Being strategic – “A vision without a strategy remains an illusion.” Lee Bolman Operationalizing the vision we have for our kids and community requires strategic thinking and action. Being intentional about our work shows how much we value all those we serve.

Actively Participating –  Making a real effort to participate in our work is so important. We aren’t satisfied standing as spectators. We jump in and are not only present but take an active role as we work toward progress.

It’s not enough to only discuss our values. It’s imperative for us to live our values out loud. We all have a responsibility to our young people to show them examples of what we’re teaching them and the values we expect them to uphold.

Let us know your thoughts.
